# How to target new vs returning visitors

> Show different notifications to first-time and repeat visitors.

You can create different notifications for new visitors and returning visitors.

## Why this matters for hotels

* **New visitors** are still deciding. Show them a "Best Price Guarantee" or "10% direct booking discount" to convince them.
* **Returning visitors** are closer to booking. Show them a "Still looking? Book now and save" or "Your selected dates are popular" urgency message.

## Steps

1. Open your notification settings
2. Find the **Targeting** section
3. Add a **Visitor type** rule
4. Select **New visitors** or **Returning visitors**
5. Save

## How TinyBell detects returning visitors

TinyBell uses session storage to identify returning visitors. If a visitor has seen your website before in the same browser, they are considered returning.
